Monterey County offices will be closed in observance of the county-wide winter recess from December 24, 2014 through January 1, 2015. During this period, regular services of the Resource Management Agency (RMA) are not available. For emergency road maintenance issues, please call 911.

For County facility maintenance issues, please call 755-4744.

For emergency inspection services including gas and electric reconnection, fire damage reports, emergency planning permits, major building damage or other emergency situations, please call 831-755-5445.

County offices will reopen on Friday, January 2, 2015.

The Resource Management Agency brings together a range of functions, including Building Services, Planning, and Public Works to ensure safe building construction, plan for the future needs of the County, manage infrastructure and county facilities, and protect natural resources.

The mission of Resource Management Agency (RMA) - Planning is to provide high-quality customer service in the areas of land use, development and resource protection to residents and business operators throughout the unincorporated areas of Monterey County. RMA - Planning consists of two divisions:

  • The Current Planning Division is responsible for reviewing land use and development proposals and permit requests for consistency with the County's adopted land use policies and regulations and taking the appropriate action on these requests.
  • The Long Range Planning Division is responsible for creating and implementing the County's development policies and regulations, primarily through the administration of the General Plan, Community Master Plans and the Zoning Ordinance.
